Principal's Message

Heather Park is a dual track school offering a French Immersion program and an English program.  Heather Park is a community working together to foster passion for learning and the discovery of skills for life. We are Heather Park HEROES!  Heather Park offers diverse learning opportunities for students.

Our French Immersion program is a vibrant one.  In addition to learning dual languages, students participate in many cultural learning activities throughout the school year including our annual Carnaval celebration!

For those of you who like sports, we offer a M-Th Intramural program for Gr. 5-7.  We also offer a full athletics program consisting of cross-country running, volleyball, basketball, relays, and track and field.

In the Fine Arts area, we offer a Band program for many interested Gr. 6 students and all interested Gr. 7 students.  Mr. Mulligan and Mrs. Harms offer a lunch time choir program for interested Intermediate students.

In the area of social emotional learning, we offer in class instruction to all of our primary students on how to manage emotions, solve small problems, and get help for bigger problems.  Ms. Christine Zammit, our Strong Start Instructor in the morning, offers afternoon SEL groups for our K-2 students to support this program.  We also run a school wide rewards program for SEL.  We have social responsibility themes identified and explicitly taught to students.  Students are then eligible for earning tickets each week when they show exemplary citizenship or exhibit socially responsible behaviour in the area of the given them.  Student tickets are then put in a draw basket and prizes are awarded weekly.

We also run a 6 week Intermediate Explorations program that offers personalized learning options for our students within the framework of the Maker Model.  The teachers work hard to provide many hands on learning opportunities for students such as:  cooking, hands-on engineering, digital video & photography and much more.

Our Fine arts program flourishes with such offerings as Choir, and Band programming.  Our choir performs yearly in our annual District Singfest Event, and students host concerts 1-2x per year for special events.

We work hard to create a strong sense of community amongst our students.  We host cultural events that include all students regardless of programming or grade level.  We have a leadership teacher, who works with leadership students to facilitate special events for students to support and strengthen our school community.  We have 'big buddies' in every Grade 5-7 class, where the 'big buddies' engage with their 'little buddies' in the primary classes for weekly events such as reading together, or helping with arts and crafts.

We strive to provide opportunities, activities and experiences to develop, guide and support each student in our learning community.
